Prompt & Purpose gatherings are spaces for listening, questioning, and collective sensemaking.
We bring artists, technologists, researchers, organizers, and cultural leaders into the same room to surface the questions that deserve deeper exploration. The gathering is not the endpoint. It is where we begin to understand what people care about—and where future experiments start to take shape.
Real-time collaborative worldbuilding
The evening began with a collaborative worldbuilding activity using Sora.
Participants considered one of Manhattan’s largest vacant lots and asked:
What if communities could use AI to visualize the future they actually want to live in?
Together, the room transformed an empty site into parks, gathering spaces, playful landscapes, and community-centered possibilities. The activity demonstrated how quickly a shared concern can become something visible, discussable, and actionable.
Artists and creative technologists
Delphine explored AI as a myth-making and spiritual practice. Her work uses speculative imagery to reclaim the Black female gaze, reconstruct erased African histories, and challenge the biases embedded in generative tools.
Creative AI can help artists reimagine culture, identity, and power.
Calvary examined how AI can uncover erased histories and create experiences that feel relational, embodied, and human. His work connects narrative design, ancestral memory, and data ethics.
Community-centered technology should be built with people, not merely for them.
Ruby discussed using AI video to materialize forgotten and alternate histories. Through speculative archives and polyphonic storytelling, he treats GPT and Sora as tools for visual memory and resurrected oral tradition.
Generative tools can challenge dominant historical narratives by making suppressed perspectives visible.
Melanie explored cultural mapping through physical presence—documenting where people gather and turning those experiences into identity-driven narrative records.
Presence, community, and belonging can be more culturally meaningful than followers or digital reach.

The gathering was not the endpoint
The empty-lot activity did not remain an isolated exercise.
The questions raised in the room helped shape Prompt & Purpose’s subsequent community-centered hackathon in Bed-Stuy, created with The Laundromat Project. There, residents worked alongside artists and creative technologists to transform neighborhood experiences into visible proposals for vacant community spaces.
